Lahore Qalandars won their first match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 by defeating Peshawar Zalmi by 4 wickets and also got two valuable points.
Earlier, in the second match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021, Peshawar Zalmi batted first thanks to Ravi Bopara’s half-century and scored 140 runs to give Lahore Qalandars a target of 141 runs in the allotted 20 overs.
In the match played at the National Stadium in Karachi, Lahore Qalandar captain Sohail Akhtar won the toss and invited Peshawar Zalmi captain Wahab Riaz to bat first.
Lahore Qalandar started their first match of the season in a smoky manner and Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled Imam-ul-Haq off wicketkeeper Ben Dunk on the first ball.
The experienced duo of Kamran Akmal and Shoaib Malik advanced Zalmai’s batting but Salman Mirza of Qalandars did not give them much time and sent Kamran Akmal, who scored 5 runs, to the pavilion.
Zalmai’s third wicket fell at 19 when young batsman Haider Ali became Salman Mirza’s second wicket at zero.
Shoaib Malik along with Ravi Bopara took the team close to a half-century in the fourth wicket but their lead was stopped by David Vishay, at which time Shoaib Malik had scored 26 runs.
Ravi Bopara led the troubled Peshawar Zalmai in a responsible manner and Sharkfin Rutherford gave him full support and both the batsmen completed the team’s century in the 17th over.
When Shaheen Shah Afridi was brought back for bowling, he took the wicket of Rutherford on the last ball of the 17th over and dropped the fifth wicket of Zalmai, who scored 26 runs.
Ravi Bopara also completed the first half-century of a good batting season by Peshawar Zalmi but Shaheen Shah Afridi was caught by Rashid Khan as soon as he completed his 50 runs, at which time Zalmi’s score was 124 runs.
Daniel made the last over for Qalandar and Zalmai hit two sixes in this over but captain Wahab Riaz also got a chance.
Peshawar Zalmi scored 140 for 6 in the allotted overs.
Emad Butt 23 and Wahab Riaz remained unbeaten on one run while Shaheen Shah Afridi took the most 3 wickets for Qalandars, Salman Mirza got 2 wickets and David Visa got 1 wicket.
In pursuit of the target, Qalandars captain Sohail Akhtar and Fakhruzzaman started batting and made a good start and scored 29 runs in partnership.
Sohail Akhtar scored 14 runs and gave a wicket to Mujeeb-ur-Rehman.
Fakhrazman was the second batsman to be dismissed as he was caught by Shoaib Malik in an attempt to throw the ball out of bounds off Wahab Riaz.
Veteran Mohammad Hafeez Salman came to bat first and batted well to complete the team’s half-century in the eighth over, after which Salman Agha was dismissed for a total score of 53.
Ben Dunk took the offensive line in the traditional manner and played good strokes but failed to play a big inning but put the team in a good position and was dismissed for 22 runs, including 2 fours and a six.
Saqib Mehmood gave Zalmai two wins in the 16th over and sent Samat Patel and new batsman David Vishay back to the pavilion.
Qalandars all-rounder Rashid Khan batted brilliantly with the help of 3 fours and a six unbeaten 27 and Mohammad Hafeez scored 33 runs to lead the team to victory.
Lahore Qalandars achieved the target of 141 by scoring 143 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the third ball of the 19th over and PS won the first victory of the sixth edition.
Muhammad Hafeez scored 33 and Rashid Khan 27 runs remained unbeaten.
Captain Wahab Riaz and Saqib Mahmood took 2.2 wickets each for Zalmai.
Shaheen Shah Afridi was declared the best player of the match.
Lahore Qalandars bowler Dilbar Hussain is out of the match due to a hamstring injury and was replaced by Salman Mirza.

It may be recalled that the PSL officially started on February 20 at the National Stadium in Karachi where a limited number of spectators sat in the stadium after the pre-recorded opening ceremony and enjoyed the match.
In the opening match of PSL 6 played yesterday, Karachi Kings made a victorious start in defending the title and easily defeated Quetta Gladiators.
If we talk about these two teams in today’s match, Peshawar Zalmi has managed to lift the trophy once in the PSL season played so far while Lahore Qalandar has not won the trophy yet.
Although Lahore Qalandars did not perform so well in the 4 seasons of PSL, they managed to reach the final in the last season of PSL, however, they were defeated by Karachi Kings.
However, Peshawar Zalmi’s overall performance so far has been better than that of Lahore Qalandar and she also managed to lift the trophy for the second season of PSL.
