The United States has blacklisted Xiaomi Smartphone Company: In the last days of his presidency, Donald Trump has once more taken action against a serious Chinese technology company.

The Trump administration has added eight Chinese companies, including Xiaomi, one among the world’s largest smartphone companies, to its list of “communist Chinese military companies.”

After Huawei, ZTE, TikTok, and VChat, now the Trump administration is targeting Xiaomi.

The companies listed within the US Department of Defense are blacklisted, after which US citizens or entities are barred from investing in them.

Xiaomi is currently one of the world’s largest mobile companies, with only Samsung and Huawei selling more phones.

Xiaomi features a global market share of 13.1% and is selling more phones than Apple.

On the opposite hand, Xiaomi said during a statement that it’s abiding by all US laws and regulations and has nothing to try to to with the Chinese military.

“The company reiterates its commitment to supply its products and services to citizens and for commercial use,” the statement said.

The company said it had been not owned, affiliated, or affiliated with the Chinese military, nor was it a communist Chinese military company.

The list that Huawei has been blacklisted is different from Huawei.

Huawei is on the US Commerce Department’s list, which barred US companies from doing business with it, which is why recent Huawei phones don’t have the Google Play Store or US processors.

ZTE is additionally on the list with Huawei. the rationale for the restrictions on Huawei is that an outsized part of its business is devices that support the formation of telecommunication devices like 4G and 5G networks.

These telecommunications devices are considered a threat to national security by the Trump administration, while Xiaomi sells consumer electronics products, which can have prevented it from being included within the list of tougher sanctions.

The Pentagon’s list was compiled in 1999 to incorporate companies affiliated with or affiliated with the Chinese military.
